Study of the scheme for transportation of intercity trains in the conditions of stochastic variation of passenger flows

In the study is developed the methodology based on quantitative and qualitative indicators and stochastic variation of passenger flows for the selection a routing of different categories of intercity passenger trains. The methods of linear optimization and Multi Criteria Analysis have been applied. In the research are elaborated different variant schemes for movement of intercity trains. The Multi Criteria Analysis method AHP is applied to determine the weights of criterion and weights of the stochastic variation of passenger flows. The Linear optimization method is applied to determine the direct operating costs. AHP method is used also to define the benefits for each variant scheme. The PROMETHEE method is applied to classify the variant schemes by criterion direct operating costs and by criterion benefits. The optimal variant scheme for intercity trains is chosen by application the method Cost/Benefit. The model was applied from Bulgarian rail network.
