Design of a broadband planar antenna for RF energy harvesting

In this paper, a broadband planar antenna for radio frequency (RF) energy harvesting is proposed. Because of the weak levels of the ambient RF energy, it will be beneficial to harvest the energy from a wide frequency band. The proposed antenna is impedance matched to a 50-ohm line over the frequency band from 2.1 GHz to 7 GHz which has many of the operating wireless applications. Three deep resonances have been introduced at the frequencies 2.4 GHz, 4 GHz, and 5.8 GHz to increase the utility of the power resulted from the operating applications at theses frequencies. The proposed antenna has been simulated, fabricated, and experimentally measured. Satisfactory performance of the antenna has been obtained while a good agreement has been achieved between the simulation and measurement results.
