Conventional and switched inductor buck boost converter circuit for solar power system: Simulation, comparison and results

To harness the power from solar has become a common phenomenon. Though the improvement in the efficiency of solar cell is gained up to 68% eventually against the claim of 85% by the manufacturers. To raise the overall efficiency of the solar system with the advent of power electronics engineering is also continuously performing an important and novel role. This paper proposes switched inductor buck boost converter model having tow inductors and three diodes, which provides higher voltage gain without affecting the efficiency when compared to the conventional buck boost converter. The simulation results are presented to confirm the capability of the converter to produce high voltage gain. The comparison between the proposed model and the traditional model is also provided to expose the improvement. The proposed converter is suitable for converter system used in micro DC grid system as well as solar power system.
