Experimental determination of the esd immunity of some electronic equipment

Between a human person, who can be electrostatically charged at voltages of 10-15kV, and an electronic device (computer, laptop, memory stick, tablet, mobile phone, etc.), a system connected to grounding, an electrostatic discharge can occur due to the person's electric load charge (electrification), wearing clothes made of synthetic fibres, due to friction with the air. Electrical discharges due to human operators can produce disturbance with very rapid variation reaching the sensitive equipment by conduction and radiation and may affect them or in the worst case even destroy them. In this paper there are presented the experimental results obtained in order to determine the degree of immunity to electrostatic discharges (ESD) into the air and through direct contact, according to the international standards, for laptops, tablets and mobile phones. Tests were conducted in the specialized laboratory at ICMET Craiova.
