Field programmable gate array implementation of digital filter for cochlear implant

Cochlear Implant are widely used to improve the hearing ability of profoundly deaf people. This paper focus on the development of filter bank which decomposes the input audio signal and deliver to the auditory nerve via transmission link and electrodes. Using Xilinx Virtex®-5 ML506 Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) chip, the filter is designed and implemented. IIR filter bank is designed which split human speech of frequency ranging 100 to 3500 Hertz into separate channels. The main purpose of the project is to develop a flexible product with high reliability and reasonable price. The simulation is done in both software and hardware environment.
