Abstract:

A novel koch fractal antenna has been developed for multiband application. The proposed antenna consists of octagonal shaped FR4 substrate with koch fractal and microstrip feed lines. The entire dimension of the antenna is 50mm ∗ 54mm. Fractal antennas are more efficient than conventional antenna. Self similarity property makes fractal antenna suitable for multiband operation. Miniaturization of the antenna can be achieved by space filling property of fractals. The resonant frequency of the proposed antenna increases, as the number of iteration of Koch fractal increases. The antenna structure was simulated using AnSoft HFSS software. The radiation characteristics such as return loss, radiation pattern and VSWR of the antenna are analyzed and presented. The proposed fractal antenna can be used in the frequency range from 2–30 GHz. The prototype model of Koch fractal antenna has been fabricated and tested using Network Analyzer. The simulated and measured return loss values are approximately equal.
