Low plasma frequency zigzag metamaterials

We have demonstrated that a periodic array of zigzag-shaped metal strips emulates an artificial plasma much better than the array of straight metal strips. The main advantage of this new geometry is that the electric size of the unit cell is significantly reduced. We have found an excellent agreement between the plasma model and the full wave simulation results for the zigzag-shaped strips, while the agreement was poor for the straight strips.
