Foreword to the Special Issue on the Remote Sensing of the World Oceans

The papers in this special issue are devoted to the deployment of remote sensing for ocean research. The contents are organized in six areas: Ocean applications with SAR remote sensing; Meso-scale and large-scale oceanic variability studies using altimeter data; Ocean surface and bathymetry feature detections with high-resolution true-color imagery; Ocean color remote sensing; Instrument calibration and validation; and Ocean surface wind retrieval with new instruments.
