Abstract:
Distributed grid edge control presents a promising approach for deriving significant value for utilities in the form of voltage support, loss reduction, peak demand reduction, energy savings and other interesting applications. In this paper, we present a distributed architecture realized using autonomous fast-acting hybrid power electronics devices managed by a software layer. Results obtained from several utilities with different feeder characteristics are used to showcase some of these value streams. Through all these ongoing demonstrations, we have been able to consistently prove significantly higher benefits as compared to traditional approaches.
