Cloud-based Virtual Computing Labs for HEIs

Recently cloud computing has ascended as a prevalent method for creating virtual computing labs (VCL) as it provides scalable, on-demand IT resources, which can be rapidly provisioned and utilized over the web. Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) around the world is in a constant state of change mainly as a consequence of globalization and challenges arising from adopting new technologies and pedagogies in classroom. Cloud computing technologies can provide an excellent alternative for HEIs where budget constraints have been incurred. We conducted interviews as part of case study method to explore how cloud computing enhanced learning at a private educational institution across many campuses in South Africa. We developed a framework for the cloud based virtual computing labs for HEIs.
