An ultra-wideband shielding materials based on single negative metamaterial

This paper discuss an ultra-wideband shielding materials, consisting of more than sixteen layers, where, metal wires periodically printing on it, an ordinary dielectric substrate. Depending on the FDTD (finite-different time-domain) method, we have calculated the field distribution and shielding effectiveness. We have studied how the number of layers and the number of the wire influence the shielding effectiveness, and analyzed the reflection and transmission of the wave, finding that this structure shielding effectiveness was above 40 dB from 20MHz to 18 GHz. Considering the material period and edge effect, we designed a shielding materials sample which dimension is 120mm × 95mm × 60 mm, and embedded it in a aluminum. Carrying on the experiment according to GJB 6190-2008, this experiment is from 20MHz to 18 GHz. For the authenticity, we adopted two pairs of antenna, which is 20MHz to 1 GHz, and the other is 1 GHz to 18 GHz. The experimental results match highly to research, shielding effectiveness of materials more than 40 dB from 20MHz to 18 GHz.
