A high-temperature narrowband selective emitter for Solar Thermophotovoltaic systems

In this paper, a high-efficiency selective emitter based on tantalum nanostructrue is designed for Solar Thermophotovoltaic (STPV) applications. Our numerical simulation shows that the proposed emitter can provide a specified narrowband emission spectrum above the band-gap with optimal bandwidth, and its performance is robust and independent to emittion angles and polarizations. According to the detailed balance calculation, over a broad range of emitter's temperatures, the solar cell efficiency of our design could breakthrough the Shockley-Queisser limit of 41%.
