A ultra-thin and polarization-independent phase gradient metasurface with anomalous reflection

In this study, a deflection phase gradient metamaterial (PGM) with isotropic unit cells is proposed and investigated using theoretical simulations and experiments. The proposed PGM is consisted of highly isotropic unit cell structures,each of which is composed of a dielectrics pacer sandwiched between an isotropic antenna structure and metal film. It was found that although the way of arranging unit cells is one-dimensioned, the PGM appears to be nearly polarization-independent. Furthermore, high-efficiency anomalous reflection is realized, with a 85% reflectivity at the operating frequency of 9.6 GHz.
