Optic studies of electromagnetic mass separator with GEANT4

The aim of this work is to simulate using GEANT4 toolkit the optic performance of an electromagnetic mass separator in nuclear physics. We take the example of an electromagnetic dipole designed for the Low Energy Beam Transport system (LEBT) recently developed for the SPIRAL2 facility, to guarantee the high quality optical transport of mono-charged ion beams with masses ranging from 3 to 240 uma, at incident energy of 60 keV and with optimal intensity of 1 μA. We used the matrix calculations to estimate the technical characteristics of the dipole. With GEANT4 toolkit, we simulated the dynamics and the optical performance in terms of mass resolving power for a mono-charged beam with mass of 122 uma. The results are presented for a uniform (ideal) magnetic field and integrated one with fringe field which was generated from a TOSCA code.
