Full metal case antenna Design and measurement

In this paper, Design of a reconfiguration frequency full metal case antenna with portable wireless terminal unit is presented in the Fig. 1. The prototype antenna in fabricated is used a copper sheet of 0.6mm thickness while occupies a volume of 13mm × 70mm × 0.6 mm, and suitable to be built-in housing of a mobile phone. A FR4 substrate with a thickness of 0.8 mm, relative permittivity of 4.4, and tangential loss of 0.0245, and size of 130mm × 70mm is used to the printed circuit board. Conductive via have been used for interconnection of the top layers of the radiator antenna and bottom layers of the ground plane on FR4 substrate. A tuning circuit, comprising an RF switch and discrete passive components, has been completely integrated into the antenna element, that it can be used to serve the following wireless communication system: LTE Band (700MHz –1 GHz and 1.7 GHz – 3.5g GHz), Bluetooth(2.4 GHz – 2.485 GHz), and the Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) standards (2.4 GHz – 2.497 GHz and 5.150 GHz – 5.825 GHz). The research relies on the available high frequency simulation (Ansoft-HFSS) to identify these design parameters and to optimize the corresponding performances. Then, use of the simulation outcomes, the optimal reconfigurable metal case multiband antenna will be fabricated and measured for performance verification. Compared to the conventional antenna, both radiation efficiency and the usage of the space are expected to be improved. The simulated and measured results, including radiation patterns, signal correlations, S-parameters, and gain values, have validated the proposed antenna design as valuable for compact handset mobile devices.
