PWM influence on the losses of a PMSG supplying a boost rectifier

This paper computes, using 2D FEM analysis, the copper and iron losses of a Permanent Magnet Synchronous generator (PMSG) supplying a three phase single switch boost rectifier. The whole system consists of the generator, the coupling converter and a PI controller. An open loop and a close loop PWM control has been implemented and both the iron and copper losses are investigated for the two control schemes. The iron losses are calculated using the loss separation equation of Steinmetz-Bertotti. The influence of the rotating magnetic field in the loss distribution is investigated too.
