Implication of active structure in Ebinur Lake basin by stream length-gradient index and Hack profile

Ebinur Lake belongs to a rift lake together with Sachs Lake and Alakol Lake inside Kazakhstan on the Bolohkenu Fault Zone, and is an evolution result combined effects of tectonics and climate roles. River longitudinal profile can reflect various geomorphic and landform characteristics of its drainage basin. For better understanding the differential recent tectonic uplift of this tectonic belt, drainage basins and river networks were extracted based on ASTER GDEM data in this study. This study is focused on the profile of the 7 mainstreams of Ebinur Lake basin. The results illustrate that the main factor to cause the landform of the drainage basin is tectonic uplifting, instead of what proposed by Davis graded river theory. In a large-scaled view of gradient index, tectonic fault exhibits a strong influence on river profile in the study area.
