A fuzzy set-point modulation scheme for control systems

This paper introduces a fuzzy inference engine for modulating the set-point of a control system to improve system transient response while retaining its target steady state operating point. Using the system's error and its rate of change, the fuzzy set-point modulator introduces a temporary change in the system set-point in order to reduce the system's settling time and damp oscillations. This paper describes the principles of the proposed fuzzy set-point modulation scheme on a second-order system, and then applies this technique to a complex vector-controlled power-electronic induction machine drive system.
