Trust based detection algorithm to mitigate the attacker nodes in MANET

MANET is a collection of mobile nodes communicating to each other without any fixed infrastructure such as access points or base station. Mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) are vulnerable to various types of attacks due to inherently in-secure wireless communication medium. In this work the behavior and impact of Jellyfish attack and Black hole attack over MANETs were analyzed. Jelly fish attacks exploit the behavior of closed loop protocols such as TCP, thus the detection process becomes to difficult. Consequently the traffic is disrupted leading to degradation in network throughput. TCP has well known vulnerabilities to delay, drop and disorder the packets. The system presents a new trust based detection algorithm that takes care of jellyfish attacks in a MANET. This proposed algorithm is based on trustworthiness of the nodes in network. Every node uses locally calculated trust values which are collected over a time period to identify whether its neighbor node is a attacker or not. The attacker nodes observe the packets during the packet transmission and drop the packets before forwarding it to the destination.
