Automated microcalcification analysis using breast mammogram

One of the major causes of death in women is the breast cancer. The early detection of the tumor is an immediate requirement. Medical image processing plays an important role in early detection thereby reducing the mortality rate. In this paper, the mammography image is enhanced by using a novel optimization technique with the help of bio-inspired algorithm to improve the micro-calcification detection performance. The automatic segmented image is followed by an enhancement operation which results in achieving local to global best optimization without using any training sequences. The performance of this enhancement technique is measures with the help of contrast improvement index (CII) parameter. This proposed technique is compared with CLAHE technique which is generally used enhancement technique for medical images.
