A miniaturized 8-port integrated antenna with low farfield pattern correlation

In this paper, a miniaturized 8-port integrated antenna design with low farfield pattern correlation and the experimental results will be proposed. The proposed antenna is composed of four L-shaped slot antennas, and four microstrip rectangular patch antennas structure. Each antenna radiates to different directions with low correlation between other antennas. The four L-shaped slot antennas are radiated in the direction of antenna's azimuth angle, and the four microstip rectangular patch antennas are radiated in the direction of antenna's elevation angle. Generally, the antenna integration requires at least λ/2 distance with other antennas at an operating frequency. The proposed 8-port antenna is integrated in the area of (0. 63λ)². We conduct an experiment using proposed antenna design, and compare the simulated antenna with manufactured antenna results. Because the proposed antenna is integrated in a miniaturized antenna space, and each antenna has low farfield pattern correlation, it can be used for simultaneous transmission of multiple streams.
