Interpolating the HDMAC signal to produce high quality still images

This paper introduces a new algorithm for inter polating quincunx subsampled images. The algorithm improves significantly the reconstruction of horizontal and vertical narrow lines through novel use of a weighted median filter for line detection. It is shown by examples that the proposed method improves both the objective and, in particular, the subjective image quality. The method is directly applicable in HDMAC receivers with the stationary 80 ms mode. Its use fulness is most obvious when still high definition images are produced, for example, for printing applications.
