The performance of r-vr-csma with sput-channel, reservation for packet voice/data in a local area network

This paper presents an extension of the Reservation Virtual Time CSMA (R-VT-CSMA) protocol which is used for packet voice in broadcast networks. This new modification splits the available bandwidth into two channels, a narrowband signalling channel and a wideband message channel. The advantage of this architecture is that contention resolu tion is performed in parallel with a packet transmissiot; which results in a significant improvement in throughput. The protocol is examined in a local area network, under a combined voice and data load.
