Direct single-mode fiber to free space coupling assisted by a cladding mode

We demonstrate initial experiments that verify the feasibility of cladding-mode assisted fiber to free-space beam coupling based on a long-period fiber grating combined with a phase-adjusting core region at the fiber tip.
