Measurement of multi-DOF error based on microvision for optical fiber assembly

Measurement based on micro-vision is an important part of micro assembly. In order to accurately control the manipulator to complete the optical fiber assembly, it's necessary to measure the relative position of the optical fiber and the groove by the visual. This paper builds a new vision measurement system for optical fiber assembly without special markets. In this system, two microscope cameras are placed in orthogonal way which makes error detection more precise and direct in all directions. We can get the target area through a series of images processing based on specific features of images. Then the relative position of the optical fiber and groove can be obtained through line fitting and mathematical knowledge. An experimental platform is manufactured to verify the method. Accuracy of the error measurement can reach micron level in multi-DOF in the experiment.
