Flooding area detection by ALOS-2 fully polarimetric data

This paper presents a detection result of flooding area in Joso-city, Japan, suffered from flood disaster caused by heavy rainfall on 2015 09 11. An emergency observation was carried out by the spaceborne sensor “ALOS-2” on 2015 09 16 using fully polarimetric data acquisition mode. Inundated areas were retrieved based on the magnitude of total power of the scene, and were validated with ground truth data. Good correspondence and scattering mechanism change from unflooded situation were identified by the fully polarimetric data.
