It's all about reliability — Commercial versus industrial UPS for petrochemical & offshore applications

A comprehensive comparison between static commercial uninterruptible power supplies and industrial uninterruptible power supplies is presented. The hierarchically structured comparison starts with the classification according to relevant standards, followed by a comparison of the different system designs down to the level of sub-modules (inverters, rectifiers, chargers). It will be shown, which switching technologies and topologies are suited best for the different applications and what measures can be undertaken to increase the reliability furthermore, e.g. redundancy concepts and design.
