An improved quadric error metrics algorithm based on triangle strips

In this paper, we propose an improved quadric error metrics algorithm based on triangle strips which raises the speed of compression and keeps the features of the appearance of cultural relics well. We also establish the hierarchical model of gradual transmission, which resolves the problem of undesirable high time expenses when transmitting the artifact model. In the first place, triangle strips coding is carried out to reduce the amount of storage of the model. Based on the triangle strips, the Garland algorithm is applied and the length of the edge multiplied by a curvature term is introduced as a weight factor to keep the characteristics of the model. Finally, DEFLATE algorithm is employed to reduce the amount of data in the transmission. The system of this paper is developed by C/S mode transmission structure and TCP/IP transmission protocol. The validity of this method is demonstrated by relevant experiments.
