Outdoor location estimation for mobile based on single base station scattering distance

Localization techniques in microcellular networks have been increasingly important for many applications especially for those who are looking for emergency call conditions. This paper propose a new approach for LOS and NLOS localization in an urban environment using a single base station (SBS) and the measured scattering distances by utilizing the effects of the time of arrival (TOA) and angle of arrival (AOA) which are computing from the numerous multipath components coming from the scatterers around the mobile station (MS) and the base station. A site of a student's hostel at UniMAP University Perlis in Malaysia was chosen to be our proposed scenario. A proper technique that is most efficient to be used was suggested. Finally, the performance of our simulation results compared with the U.S. FCC standard range. As a result, 70% of the subscribers can be identified which is more satisfied.
