Effect of insertion losses on millimeter-wave SIW filters using LTCC technology

This paper describes the study of insertion losses effect on millimeter-wave substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) filters of different degree fabricated on LTCC technology. First-, second- and third-degree filters were designed based on TM

circular cavity structure operating at 38 GHz. It was observed that the losses variation across the passband increases proportionally by a factor of 1.4 as the degree of the filter increases. Hence, careful consideration between allowance for insertion losses and selectivity of filter specifications are needed when designing LTCC SIW filters at high frequencies.
