Traffic emission control based on emission pricing and signal timing

Considering the increase of the vehicle ownership, the deterioration of air quality and other related issues, a traffic emission control model is given in this paper. Two control measures which are emission pricing and signal timing are implemented, aiming at maximizing environmental benefits and taking traffic efficiency into account at the same time. By optimizing link based emission tolls and intersection based signal plans, the generalized impedance function of each link is changed, which will affect traveler's traffic mode and route choice indirectly. Numerical analysis indicates that joint optimization of multiple control measures can achieve the purpose of reducing traffic emissions.
