Performance analysis of Root Raised Cosine filtering in CCSDS ACM

The Earth Exploration Satellite Services need to support a wide variety of spectral efficiencies and data rates based on channel conditions, such as a function of the elevation angle. For this purpose, Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems (CCSDS) presents the Advanced Coding and Modulation (ACM) 131.2-B-1 standard. The standard employs Serial concatenated convolutional Turbo-coding with variable coding rates and modulation schemes for high rate telemetry. In this paper we analyse the action of Root Raised Cosine filtering in CCSDS ACM standard, followed by evaluation of BER performance of the different Advanced Coded and Modulated modes present in CCSDS 131.2-B-1 standard, in AWGN environment. The variation of different parameters of the Root raised Cosine filter and it's effect on the performance of the system is analysed.
