Combining the product code technique and constellation extension scheme to reduce the PAPR of SC-FDMA systems

Single-carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) systems are currently being replaced with the long-term evolution (LTE) scheme as the main uplink transmission technique. Compared with orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) systems, SC-FDMA systems exhibit lower peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). However, modulation and pulse-shaping techniques vary among systems, and PAPR can be increased in SC-FDMA systems. Therefore, improving the PAPR performance of the SC-FDMA technique is currently a prominent research topic. This study proposes a novel approach for reducing PAPR through integrating the constellation extension scheme and a product code technique in the binary phase-shift keying (BPSK) modulation of SC-FDMA systems. The simulation results show that the PAPR performance in the proposed method not only surpassed that of the traditional SC-FDMA technique, but also integrated the channel coding technique and reduced the PAPR, thereby simplifying the overall circuit.
