Design of the controller for synchronous generator exciting system by FBL and H∞ methods

Power system stabilizers for the generation of control signals for exciting system have been employed to damp oscillations resulting from the power system disturbance input. To overcome the shortcomings of the power system conventional stabilizers by the use of feedback linearization methods and H

robust optimal control, two synchronous generator exciting system controllers were designed. The main goal for the design of these two controllers is to regulate voltage and improve the stability of the power system small signal simultaneously in spite of the allowed uncertainties and disturbances entering the power system. The results of simulations obtained by MATLAB Software on single-machine infinite bus system show that the designed controllers enjoyed appropriate performance under different operational conditions and can be suitable replacement for the conventional AVR+PSS.
