CFD, thermal environments, and cultural heritage: Two case studies of Roman baths

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) has become a mainstay in modern engineering. This paper summarizes the use of CFD in cultural heritage and classical archaeology to help understand the thermal environment inside ancient Roman baths. Two case studies demonstrate how CFD can provide details previously unattainable, such as temperature distributions, and add to the knowledge base of both archaeology and engineering.
