Robust fault-tolerant control design for induction motor with faults and disturbances

This paper proposes a robust fault-tolerant control method for three-phase induction motor with sensor faults and disturbances. To design the fault estimation observer, the motor system states are augmented with the faults treated as new states, leading to an augmented and singular system with disturbances. Using system output measurements, a new observer is designed via linear matrix inequality (LMI) technique, which can guarantee the convergence of estimated sates and faults. Based on the observed states, a robust fault-tolerant controller is proposed, which can make the faulty system stable and have some robust performance. Simulation results on a realistic induction motor model are presented to illustrate the observer behavior and fault-tolerant control performance.
