Hierarchical development of the Spatial Data Infrastructures as a globalization trend

Exceedingly important feature of globalization has become establishment of a global spatial data infrastructure. Its significant unit is the network of a global information technology (IT), mainly the Internet system providing comprehensive possibilities of the communication between companies, people and the state. Development of the Internet most of all contributed to the easy access to geospatial information. This article shown the development of infrastructure for spatial information as a result of the globalization. Separated three aims of the paper. First purpose was to describe the emergencei of ithe conceptsi ofi GSDI, ESDIi and NSDI, second, to ioutline the relationship between different levels of SDI concepts as a result of the globalization and third to show current state of the data provided by the Polish Geoportal.
