High spectral purity OEO (Opto-Electronic Oscillator) for high dynamic environment platform

Generation and distribution of very low phase noise and spurious-free microwave Local Oscillator (LO) is needed for most of the radar or electronic warfare applications. Microwave optical technologies are well dedicated to this purpose. In a previous paper, we have studied a directly-modulated optical link. Thanks to new experimentations with external-modulated optical links, we compare those two kinds of optical link with coaxial cable link, while subjected to severe environmental conditions. Then, we design, realize and optimize three OEO with the external modulation links at 3.2, 10 and 26 GHz. Finally, we implement an electronic active compensation of vibration in the realized 10 GHz OEO.
