Photonic crystal cavities

This article discusses: a concept to control photons in 2D photonic crystals (photonic nano-devices - the highest Q factor > 9 million has been achieved); the development of advanced light manipulation technology (stop light/on-demand catch/release of optical pulses and all-Si Raman lasing); the realization of high-power, high-beam-quality lasers (Watt-class CW lasing oscillation has been realized, together with a demonstration of the burning of paper); and thermal emission control (conversion of broad-band to narrow-band emission and ultrafast thermal emission control).
