A Novel Quickness Improvement Method of a Magnetic-Valve Controllable Reactor

Though the magnetic-valve controllable reactor (MCR) has been actually applied in dynamic reactive compensation of electric railway and power system, its dynamic compensation performance is limited by the defect of its slow response in the transition process. Based on the structure characteristics and the magnetic flux distribution of an MCR, a novel quickness improvement method, which only needs to add auxiliary windings in two iron yokes of an MCR and several switch devices, is proposed. The mathematical model of the magnetization and demagnetization with this quickness improvement method is analyzed and built, based on which, the relationships between the estimated transition time and the parameters of the improved MCR structure are considered. Also, the simulation model of the quickness improvement method is established by MATLAB/SIMPOWERSYSTEM. The simulation results confirm correctness of the theoretical analysis and effectiveness of the novel quickness improvement method of an MCR presented here.
