DC-DC current buck converter through duality approach and its DC transformer modelling for current based loads

This paper presents a DC-DC current buck converter through duality approach and its DC transformer modelling for current based loads. Buck converters are predominant parts in switched mode power supply (SMPS). These converters are attached after rectifiers at output end to control output quantity. There are some applications in which current source is available and there is need of output current control as most of SMPS applications have low current ratings. Thus, current buck converter for such applications is proposed which is a dual of voltage buck converter. The converters also find applications to power up current-based loads such as light-emitting diode. The procedure of formation of dual network of buck converter is also discussed in this paper. In this paper mathematical analysis of the conversion ratio of the converter is also provided. Transformer modelling of dual of buck converter (proposed current type converter) is described along with its mathematical equations. The proposed converter is simulated using MATLAB and results prove the duality principle; verifying mathematical equations of current buck converter.
