Reducing head magnetic spacing of magnetic hard disk and its limitations

Techniques use by magnetic hard disk industry manufacturers to reduce head magnetic spacing and its limitations were demonstrated. Increasing the nitrogen content in the carbon overcoat film will result in higher corrosion due to moisture percolation. Attempts to improve flyability of the magnetic head through changes to lubricant film thickness, addition of additives, molecular weight of lubricant and irradiation with UV rays (185nm) will lead to worse durability, vice versa.
