Design and optimization of a concentrated flux transverse flux permanent motor

Based on our completed design of a surface mounted transverse flux permanent magnet motor (SM-TFPM) with auxiliary stators, a concentrated-flux transverse flux permanent magnet motor (CF-TFPM) is designed and the hard-to-fasten auxiliary stators are canceled by appropriate flux path design, moreover, the selected harmonic of cogging torque is reduced by optimizing the helical tooth angle. Standing on the initial design of CF-TFPM, in order to reach the optimization target of reducing cogging torque and flux leakage simultaneously, three key variables are determined that have direct effect on the cogging torque and flux leakage based on our design experience, the taguchi method is introduced in this paper to design experiments and the experimental results are analyzed by the grey relational analysis method to get the performance effect degrees of every level for each key variable, the optimal combination of three key variables is then obtained. Compared with the initial design of CF-TFPM, the performance of optimized CF-TFPM has gained an obviously improvement.
