The optimized design of power conversion circuit and drive circuit of switched reluctance drive

Due to the advantages of simple structure, low cost, high reliability and high performance, the switched reluctance drive (SRD) is quite suitable for electric vehicle (EV) drive system. Power converter circuit and driver circuit are the interface between the switched reluctance motor (SRM) and control circuit, which plays a very important role in the EV SRD. As is known to all, the main problem of the SRD system is that it produces a large electromagnetic torque ripple and noise at the operation. Also, a high voltage spike may be generated on the switch and stator winding end when the power switch turns off. The practical results prove that a set of good power converter and drive circuit can shorten switching time, reduce switching wastage and it makes power semiconductor devices work in ideal state. As a result, the efficiency and the dependability of the SRD system can be raised and the above problems can be solved at a certain extent. Therefore, the power converter is improved from the design of the main circuit topology and circuit layout. Then the low cost drive circuit is designed and optimized. At last, the performance of the converter and driver are tested and analyzed through the experiment platform of a 7.5kW three-phase switched reluctance motor.
