Platforms for Cyber-Physical Systems - fractal operating system and integrated development environment for the physical world

It is a commonplace observation that the available computational power is increasingly going into technical systems in contrast to “classical” information systems. According to [2], the predicted 2017 global semiconductor billings in the fields of communication, consumer electronics, automotive, and industrial with a total volume of 246.9 bn US$ will nearly double the volume of data processing with 153.3 bn US$. As a result, the size of the software of those technical systems exceeds the size of information systems. According to [4] the total code size of an average modern high-end car with more than 100 million lines of codes exceeds the total size of a modern operating system with about 80 million lines of code. Thus, information and communication technologies increasingly automate not only management processes but also technical processes in the physical world.
