Mitigate airliners' risk via intervening critical controls by leveraging authenticated secret sharing

As one of the most popular forms of transportation, the airliner involves risks and its safety has always been a critical concern for all passengers and crew members. Airliner incidents indicate that when pilots are manipulated by hijackers or the pilots intend to commit suicide: the airliner may either crash or be shot down due to its potential for suicide attack. To address these risks, we target at the critical operations under specific context which could potentially crash the airliner if there is no intervention to prohibit them. We propose an efficient, authenticated, secure solution which could enable the air traffic controller to intervene or even to prohibit the critical but dangerous operations. Our solution could successfully mitigate the risk of the single point of compromise when either a pilot or an air traffic controller has the unlimited privilege over the airliner. The experimental result also shows that the proposed solution demonstrates efficiency in terms of computational cost and it is feasible to be fitted in the aviation system.
