Compensation of dissipations in semiconductor metamaterials

The effect of dissipation on the electrodynamic properties of a fine-layers periodic semiconductor structure is considered under the assumption that the period of the structure is much smaller than the electromagnetic radiation wavelength. The possibility of loss compensation in active semiconductor structure subjected to an electric field is demonstrated.
