Channel modeling and path loss characterization for in-body propagation at MICS and ISM bands

This paper presents a study of in-body signal propagation and subsequent channel characterization based on FDTD-modeling technique for both 402.5 MHz and 2.45 GHz bands. More specifically, a half-wave dipole has been considered to be located in the pancreas of a male and a female phantom respectively. The computation of the electric field and the power density fluctuations as the signal traverses within the human body and the investigation of path loss modeling and signal absorption have been carried out. Results demonstrate the particular behavior of signal attenuation for an in-body scenario where the antenna is planted deeper in the human phantom than in most published works. Our findings provide the basis for further research on the validation of channel modeling for body implants.
