Improving harmonics' generation by “zeroing-stubs” in a slot-ring antenna

This paper describes how long-established methods such as stub-tuning can be implemented in antenna design to improve generating high order harmonics. Stubs are sited at nulls in current density for a given modal distribution (i.e. TE11 and TE31 in this article) to induce the creation of zeros of a high harmonic. In this paper the method is applied to help generate the third harmonic in a slot-ring antenna designed to resonate at its fundamental frequency of 100 GHz. The addition of the stubs induces the third harmonic (300 GHz) more efficiently.
