A reconfigurable patch antenna printed on YIG-epoxy composite substrate

In this paper we present the design, fabrication and characterization of a reconfigurable microstrip patch antenna with a substrate made of Epoxy bonded Yttrium Iron Garnet (YIG). This antenna is suitable for applications in 5 GHz band requiring frequency and polarization agility. We investigate the influence of the external magnetic field strength on the antenna's operating frequency and polarization properties. It is proved via simulation and measurements that we can control the antenna polarization by changing the magnitude of the external DC magnetic field applied perpendicular to the antenna substrate.
